County Cavan has a well deserved reputation as being one of the premier counties in Ireland for coarse and pike fishing, it has many excellent angling centre's offering visiting anglers many facilities which will ensure they have an enjoyable and memorable holiday.

There are waters to suit all angling tastes, the river systems of the Shannon and Erne have their sources in the county, the Dromore - Annelee is located in the middle of the county as does the upper reaches of the River Boyne. These rivers together with their associated lakes have stocks of Bream, Roach, Rudd, Perch and Pike. Eels are to be found in most of the waters in the County. Roach, Bream and Rudd Bream Hybrids are also found in the majority of these fisheries.

Recently Carp have been stocked in selected lakes, and will no doubt soon offer excellent sport, Tench are now more widespread than previously and have reached specimen size in some fisheries.

The large lakes such as Gowna, Oughter, Sillan, Upper Lough Erne, Lough McNean and Lough Ramor offer large stocks of Roach and Bream. Surveys carried out recently have shown stocks of all species are are at a healthy level, with many fisheries holding specimen fish.

The specialist match angler is well catered for in Cavan with several three and four day events held, one of Ireland’s major international events is the British King of Clubs is held annually in County Cava local festivals are held annually at Arvagh, Belturbet and Cootehill, many one day open matches are at other centre's.

The International Fishing Centre Ltd is a magnificent development situated along the Erne River at Belturbet.

• It is illegal to fish with more than two rods.
• The use of live fish as bait, is prohibited.
• It is illegal to transfer live Roach from one water to another.
• The taking and killing by any person of more than one Pike on any day, is
  prohibited.
• The taking and killing by any person of any Pike exceeding 6.6 lbs. or 3
  Kilos in weight, is prohibited
• It is prohibited for any person having in his possession more than one dead whole Pike or alternatively, more then 3.3 lbs. or 1.5 Kilos weight of Pike flesh or parts.The above mentioned prohibitions do not apply to specimen Pike (as defined by the bye-law) provided only one such Pike is taken and killed by any person on any one day and that only one such Pike, in whole and ungutted form is in the possession of any person. A specimen size Pike in a river is over 20 lbs. and in a lake is over 30 lbs.
