The Bar has been operating since 1803 and stands, quite literally, in the shadow of Killyleagh Castle which dates back to the 1177 and beyond it was in that year that John de Courcy one of the Anglo Norman conquers of Ireland built a castle probably on the site of an earlier Irish fortified site which in all probability was occupied and used by allies of Nial of the nine hostages a tribal leader who was active in Ireland in the early fifth century and is said by many to be responsible for the seizing of St Patrick in Wales or Western England and bring him as a slave to Ireland.

Situated close to Saul Church, which was the original site of Saul Abbey and close to original barn )St Tassachs which was reputedly founded by St Patrick in 432, Paddy's barn is a friendly country pub where you can enjoy splendid traditional Irish cooking in pleasant surroundings.

It also hosts a vibrant musical scene, which is now held on first Tuesday of each month. With a series of informal themed evening of traditional songs & music held through out this year
and continuing into 2010.

Invited singers & musicians will be celebrating one of the richest themes in traditional & folk music with songs & music from Ireland, Scotland & beyond. Past themes have included emigration, love songs, songs of loss and parting.
All singers, musicians & listeners welcome.

There will be an opportunity in the second part of the evening for anyone in the gathering to contribute a traditional song or verse on the theme.
