Lissadell House.

(Ring fort of the blind.)

This house was built for Sir Robert Gore-Booth by Francis Goodwin in the 1830's, it is a neo classical two storey building rather plain on the outside, although the interior makes up for this. The entrance hall is lined with round Ionic and square Doric columns, with a double staircase leading to a half landing with a fireplace. The gallery also with Ionic columns reaches to the roof and is illuminated by a clerestory and a skylight.

The library and dining room contain memorabilia of the Gore-Booth family, especially the sisters Eva and Constance (Countess Markievicz). A double portrait of them by Sarah Purser hangs in the dining room. The house is open to the public, some of the Goore-Booth's still occupy the house.
