Ballyporeen.
In County Tipperary.

The village of Ballyporeen is situated in the south of county Tipperary on the banks of the River Duag and lies in a valley with the Knockmealdown Mountains to the South and the Galtee's to the north.

Probably the village's biggest claim to fame is that former US President Ronald Regan's grandfather Michael Regan was baptized there in 1828 and lived in the area until he emigration to the United States in the 1860s.

Regan visited the town on 3rd June 1984, a visit that had more than a little controversy attached to it regarding Regan's support for the Contras in Nicaragua & Honduras.

However his visit resulted in the building of the Ronald Reagan Visitor Centre, the centre operated for a time as a tourist office, but was closed it now serves as a community centre, another venture which sprung into life was the Ronald Regan pub, which apparently is also closed with its fittings now adorning the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum in Santa Barbara, California.
