Holy Cross Abbey Co Tipperary.

Holy Cross Abbey.

Founded in 1180 by Donal Mór O'Brien, king of Thomond this Cistercian Abbey has been restored, and gives visitors the opportunity to glimpse medieval monastic life.

The original construction is mostly obscured by a fifteenth century renovation, the original west wall of the church , together with trace of the lancet windows and portions of the nave survive, as well as portions of the nave and the rib crossings in the choir and crossings.

The rest of the church and cloister result from fifteenth and twentieth century rebuilding.
