Inishbofin lies seven miles off Galway’s coast. The island has an area of about 15 sq miles. Today the island relies heavily on tourism, although fishing and farming are important factors in the islands economy.

With its remote location Inishbofin is the ideal location for a relaxing holiday away from the hustle of modern day life. The island has several safe sandy beaches where visitors can enjoy the crystal clear water, which makes a diving holiday a particularly attractive option.

There are five villages, West Quarter, Fawnmore, Middle Quarter, Cloonamore and Knock.

Bird watching enthusiasts will find lots of interesting subject matter, the rarest or most threatened species breeding on the island at present are the Corncrake.

A building known as Cromwell’s Barracks was used to imprison priests declared guilty of treason after the statutes of 1585.
