Tievebulliagh.

 

 

Located in The Glens of Antrim north-eastern Ireland Tievebulliagh 402m (1,319 ft) high mountain, could with some justification be described as one of Ireland's first industrial sites.

At the foot of this mountain evidence has been found of a Neolithic axe quarry and flint axe heads made from the stone quarried on the site or a similar one on Rathlin Island have been found not only in many parts of Ireland, but from the south coast of England to the Outer Hebrides, it is estimated that over 10,000 axes of Antrim porcellanite have been identified.

Porcellanite flint is quite rare it is created under unusual geological circumstances, to explore how porcellanite is formed visit this site.

There is a Bronze Age cairn on the mountain top. The round cairn and Neolithic axe factory on Tievebulliagh are Scheduled Historic Monuments sited in the townland of Cloghs, in Moyle District Council area, at grid ref: area of D193 266
