The original house here dates from the 1750's, a wing was added by Richard White in 1770. The house was remodeled again in the early nineteenth century, this included a balustraded roof parapet. The house was used as temporary headquarters for the army during the abortive French landing at Bantry Bay in 1796.

The house contains a varied array of exotic furniture collected by Richard White, Viscount Berehaven, during his extensive European travels in the 1840's. The view from the house is magnificent, the gardens are maintained to perfection and much admired.

During the 1798 rebellion the house was use by the British as their headquarters in the area.

The gallery houses a wonderful collection of Irish paintings by the following artists Nathaniel Grogan, James Barry, Daniel MacLise, James Sleator, Sir William Orpen, Maurice MacGonigal, Paul Henry, William John Leech, Walter Osborne, Sean Keating, James Humbert Craig, Charles Lambe, George Russell, (AE), and Jack B Yeats.

Situated in Emmet Place beside the Opera House. It was built in 1724 as a customs house, at that time ships discharges alongside at Kings Dock. This little museum located within the beautiful Fitzgeralds Park, has on display items dating from prehistory to the 1920's. The ground floor houses a collection of Cork silver and glass, and items relating to the 1798 rebellion, the Young Ireland Rising of 1848 and the Fenian Rising of 1867, and the war of Independence 1916 22. The latter include mementos of Terence McSweeny Mayor of Cork who died as a result of his seventy four day hunger strike.

On the first floor are bronze age axes, urns, and food vessels collected from sites in the area. There are also displays dating from the iron age these include horse trappings. There is also a very rare Viking tunic, also on this floor is a facsimile of the Book of Kells.

The extensive cave system that lies beneath the Caher to Mitchelstown road was only discovered in 1833, the cave was formed over the millennia by the action of water on the limestone rocks.

About half a mile of the cave system is accessible. there is a series of huge rock caverns, with weird and wonderful rock formations, with names describing their weird shapes the Eagles Wing, Pillars of Hercules, Golden Fleece, Organ Pipes and the Tower of Babel.
