Ireland's national museum is an absolute must for anyone visiting Dublin, it houses a vast collection of Ireland's most treasured antiquities, it is said to have the finest collection of ancient gold items in Europe dating from the eight to first century's BC. There are also many items dating from the Christian era including the Ardargh Chalice, the Cross of Cong made in 1123 for Turlough O'Conner, king of Connacht, the eight century Tara Brooch, the Broighter Hoard unearthed in County Derry in the 1890's, and the magnificent twelfth century shrine of St Patricks Bell which houses a fifth century iron bell.
