The town of Kildare is the oldest in the county and the most historic. The Curragh racecourse near the town is the venue for the most important Irish horse flat races including the Irish 1,000 Guineas, Irish Derby, Irish Oaks, and Irish St Leger.

Kilcock is a town located 2 miles from Maynooth, four miles west of the town in Newtown the Catholic parish church of the Nativity(1974) by Tyndall, Hogan and Hurley, has some fine sanctuary furnishings by Michael Biggs, and metal work by Patrick McElroy and a suspended dove, a mother and child and a standing cross all by Benedict Tutty all in terra cotta.
