Narrow Guage Railways in Ireland.

Many narrow gauge railways have been built in Ireland, several still in existence, one such is The Clonmacnaoise & West Offaly Railway this and a few others were built to transport peat from Irish bogs to a distribution point, usually these narrow gauge trains were pulled by diesel locomotives. When in 1904 it was decided to build The Silent Valley Reservoir in the Mourne Mountains Co Down a narrow gauge railway was built from Annalong harbour to the construction site in the mountains, this railway was dismantled when the project was completed.

There is a museum featuring the Cavan and Leitrim narrow gauge railway at Dromod County Leitrim
